Principle Investigator

Dr. Jongho Lee, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering

Education

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • M.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University
  • B.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University

Dr. Jongho Lee received B.S. and M.S. at Seoul National University and earned his Ph.D. from the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before he came to UBC, Dr. Lee was a postdoctoral researcher in the Dept. of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at Yale University.

Primarily using membrane-based technologies, he is interested in solving a wide range of problems in the water and energy nexus including Desalination, Water/wastewater treatment, Resource harvesting from impaired sources, and Energy harvesting and conversion. In pursuit of creative engineering solutions, his methodology includes both experiments and mathematical modeling to demonstrate the devised technologies and explore the in-depth application potential.

Keegan Parkhurst obtained his B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. His research interests are in applying fundamental polymer physics and chemistry to a variety of environmental problems. His master's project was on tuning the structural properties of cellulosic desalination membranes. His current research is on developing a polymeric tri-layer composite artificial tree. In his free time, he likes to go cycling, read, play the clarinet and bass guitar, and make coffee and tea.

Yinchuan Yang
Visiting Scholar
yinchuan@student.ubc.ca
Yinchuan completed his B.S. in Water and Wastewater Engineering at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology in Xi'an (2016) and obtained his M.S. in Environmental Engineering at East China Normal University in Shanghai (2020). Now, as a Ph.D. student at Tongji University in Shanghai, he is on a two-year visiting research study program at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He is now focusing on developing novel omniphobic membranes for treatment of high salinity wastewater. Yinchuan enjoys outdoor running, listening to music, watching movies, and playing badminton in his free time.

Hung Pham
M.A.Sc. Student
hungph05@mail.ubc.ca
Hung completed his Bachelor of Environmental Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) in 2022. His project was about using capacitive deionization technology to desalinate brackish water. His current Master's research centers on examining the mechanism underlying leaching issues in Supported liquid membranes. When not working, he likes to play soccer, tennis, listen to music, exercise and cook.
